Meteors swarm over USA West Coast?
Thousands of startled people witnessed what first reports are calling a meteor shower over large parts of Arizona and Southern California. Quite literally thousands of reports are passing through twitter feeds under the search term/hashtag #meteor.
Others are saying that it is no meteor and resembles more a craft under intelligent control - but whetever it is - all agree it's huge.
We'll be posting more as we receive it - if you have pictures or witnessed tonight's events please send us a description of what you saw to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Thank you.
9:49pm California time - Contradictory reports are coming through - Some Tweets are clearly stating they saw the 'meteor' travel West whilst others are saying they saw it travel East - it would appear most likely that there are several meteors. One report suggests that a 'large' meteor has crashed in the desert in Arizona and the night sky there is glowing 'orange'.
Very confusing details all round - we'll bring you more asap.
Latest from NASA is that it is not the UARS satellite, which they are still tracking in orbit.
We have removed both the stills image from this article as currently even Mainstream Media outlets are falling victim to people posting images and video which ARE NOT of tonight's events. Until we find something which can be completely confirmed as having being taken tonight we will not be posting any more images - in short - everything you have seen thus far is either faked, hoaxed or is footage of varying things entering our atmosphere from months or even years past.
Contrary to what others are saying (It's claimed this video is of the Jules Verne re-entry in 2008) I can find no comparative video from that period - so the video below stays;
We have just found a video taken in Glendora and received by KCal9 TV Station - the object in the video CHANGES DIRECTION several times! As the individual taking the video observes 'Nothing flies that way guys!'. Not even meteors - so just what was it?
More reports - though we can trace no supporting evidence for the reporter's claim that it could be seen 'All over the world'???
Probably the most coherent and intriguing account of the night is contained in this video - it would appear there were two 'events'. A TV reporter/photographer watched a strange orange light hover for fifteen minutes above the clouds before disappearing into the atmosphere - meteors don't hover! It was when it disappeared that what appeared to be a meteorite arrived but travelling horizontally which is not the way a meteorite ordinarily travels. See for yourself -
An earlier video filmed in Edmonton Canada has nothing whatever to do with this evening's meteor - it was filmed in 2008 and is currently being passed around as having happened on the same evening.
A Planet Flipside discussion is currently ongoing on tonight's events - at this link - West Coast Meteors - There is no need to register to add to the discussion.
