Has Voyager II Been Hijacked? (Updated)
Has Voyager II been Hijacked?Strange things are happening with Voyager II and it's leaving NASA scientists baffled. Now out on the farthest reaches of our galaxy, Voyager II is not responding in the manner it was programmed to.
NASA has confirmed that since last month (April), Voyager II began sending signals back to Earth which no one at NASA could decode or decipher. It's being treated as a computer malfunction, but the fact no one at NASA appears able to conclusively identify the returning messages as 'nonsense' it has led to speculation that it may in fact be a language we are unfamiliar with! Could Voyager II have been hijacked and someone is trying to communicate with us? Until NASA can identify just what's happening and just what the transmissions represent we may all have to remain in the dark. Voyager II was launched in 1977 packed with information and cultural artefacts which would allow alien life forms finding it to understand just who and what lives on Earth.

Engineers successfully reset a computer onboard Voyager 2 that caused an unexpected data pattern shift, and the spacecraft resumed sending properly formatted science data back to Earth on Sunday, May 23. Mission managers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., had been operating the spacecraft in engineering mode since May 6. They took this action as they traced the source of the pattern shift to the flip of a single bit in the flight data system computer that packages data to transmit back to Earth. In the next week, engineers will be checking the science data with Voyager team scientists to make sure instruments onboard the spacecraft are processing data correctly.
